Retired general throws light on makeup of police force in France
Former commander of French troops in Yugoslavia
Robert Pryce threw light Wednesday on the different divisions of French police.
He said at a seminar on human rights organized by
the Center for Middle East Studies in Paris that the national police force
works to preserve security and enforce the law.
Another division of the police force can only be
used after getting permission from the interior minister, Gen. Pryce said.
He noted that the minister of defense only had the
authority to allow the use of armored vehicles.
The third division of police, he added, is made up
of troops who are deployed to preserve security. They carry light and heavy
weapons, he said.
Speaking at the seminar – apart from Pryce – was
also Member of the House of Deputies, the Chairman of the Center for Middle
East Studies in Paris and the Board Chairman of al-Bawaba News Abdel Rahim Ali.
Gilbert Sinuet, a French journalist and writer who
accompanied French President Emmanuel Macaron during his latest visit to Egypt,
will also speak at the seminar, along with Roland Lombardi from the French
National Institute for Studies and Research of the Islamic and Arab Worlds.
