Saudi Attorney General, Egyptian Justice Minister Discuss Judicial Cooperation

Egyptian Minister of Justice Hossam Abdel-Rahim
received on Thursday Saudi Attorney General Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al-Muajab,
accompanied by a high-level judicial delegation from the Saudi Public
Prosecution.
A statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of
Justice said that the meeting touched on aspects of joint cooperation and the
activation of judicial agreements signed between the two countries in the
criminal field.
The statement also said that the visit confirmed
“the deep-rooted Saudi-Egyptian relations that fall within the framework of a
joint strategy aimed at supporting the exchange of judicial expertise and
enhancing joint Arab cooperation.”
The Saudi Attorney General is visiting Cairo to
participate in the first regional conference for the Middle East and North
Africa on strengthening international cooperation in the face of the growing
threat of terrorism and money laundering.
The conference concluded on Thursday with the
participation of 41 countries and international organizations from the MENA
region, Europe and Asia.
Nabil Sadeq, Egyptian Attorney General, presented
the recommendations at the end of the conference, calling for strengthening the
mechanisms of regional and bilateral cooperation to prevent and combat criminal
practices and to take more effective measures to fight terrorism, with emphasis
on the respect for human rights and the support for mutual cooperation.
He also urged countries to respond swiftly to
demands for mutual legal assistance and requests for the extradition of
convicts in terrorist cases through the application of international
conventions or the principle of reciprocity.
Sadeq also pointed to the importance of
encouraging states to freeze and confiscate the funds of terrorists and
terrorist entities, within the framework of relevant international and regional
conventions, and to make necessary national legislative amendments in line with
international obligations.
