Yemen’s National Mine Action Program said 45 civilians have been killed and wounded in recent months by mines and improvised explosive devices left by Houthi militias in Bihan, Ain, and Asilan districts in Shabwa province, southeast Yemen.

The program stressed that Houthi militias have planted large quantities of mines and explosive devices when Shabwa province was under their control.

They deliberately planted the mines in roads and farms, causing the deaths of hundreds of civilians, the program added in a statement.

Demining teams reported that Houthis deliberately planted thousands of mines in large-scale areas in Bihan, Asilan, and Ain districts before fleeing.

Houthi minefields prevented more than 800 displaced families from returning to their homes, forcing them to live in displacement areas and in dire humanitarian situations.
