Turkish mediation between India and Pakistan, malicious intentions, exposed deeds
Turkey has been trying to take
advantage of the crisis that occurred between India and Pakistan a few days ago
in a way that servers its malicious interests, therefore, it offered mediation
between the two countries.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said on Feb. 27 that Ankara is always willing to contribute to easing tensions between Pakistan and India.
On Feb. 27, the two countries engaged in their first aerial encounters in decades, with Pakistan claiming to have downed two Indian aircraft that had entered its airspace and India claiming to have shot down one Pakistani aircraft.
Pakistan also captured an Indian pilot who was arrested by troops after the downing of his aircraft.
Pakistan announced it is willing to negotiate with India and release the Indian pilot who has been in Pakistani custody as a gesture for peace.
The Pakistani Ambassador to Turkey welcomed the Turkish mediation, saying that it could ease tension between the two countries, meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed that his country seeks Turkish mediation with India.
The Turkish mediation serves a number of purposes, as it shows Turkey as a country that sponsors peace as it has been evading criticism by the international community for its violations in Syria through highlighting its role in stopping a war that could claim that the lives of thousands.
Moreover, the Turkish mediation entrenches Turkey’s feet in Southeast Asia, which is an area of strategic importance to Saudi Arabia because of the military and economic cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. This means that Turkey could have the upper hand in forming up patterns of interactions between countries of this region, guaranteeing the support of these countries in any diplomatic conflicts.
Turkey realizes that it has been isolated by a number of Arab countries in the area, thanks to its support to terrorist activities in the Arab nation, therefore, it seeks new regions to increase economic cooperation with countries of these regions, and to compensate for the losses after boycott campaigns against Turkish products in many Arab countries.
In other words, Turkey seeks to take advantage of the crisis between India and Pakistan to introduce itself as a friendly country, the matter which will contribute to increasing economic cooperation and international mediation in any international conflicts.
The strategic relation between Turkey and Pakistan was the main reason why it offered to mediate to ease the tension; as in July 2018, Pakistan and Turkey signed a deal for 30 Turkish Aerospace Industries T129 ATAK helicopter gunships. This means that Turkey mediated to ease the military tension over Pakistan, the matter which gives the Pakistani government an opportunity to focus on the economic aspects.
