As part of Egypt's celebration of Martyr's Day, which falls on 9 March each
year, the religious institutions represented by Al-Azhar, the Ministry of Waqfs
(Endowments) and Dar al-Ifta launched an extensive campaign to define the
martyrs and concept of martyrdom to counter the counterfeiting of the Muslim
Brotherhood and its supporters as they call their elements who are killed state
army and police institutions as martyrs.
The Islamic Research Center launched an awareness campaign about the high
position of martyrs who have sacrificed their most precious possessions to
preserve the homeland and its capabilities. The campaign included 2800
preachers to carry out the awareness program in all mosques, schools,
institutes, youth centers, clubs, and government institutions.
Mohieddin Afifi, Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy, said that
the campaign aims at raising awareness of the martyrs' status and their great
role in protecting the homeland and defending its citizens against the
conspiracies of enemies inside and outside the country.
He also highlighted the need to consolidate the spirit of sacrifice for the
sake of protecting the homeland and to honor and cherish the heroes who have
sacrificed themselves for the sake of this homeland.
He added that the campaign program shows the importance of defending the
homeland and protecting it from all conspiracies of enemies, especially at this
stage, which requires everyone to stand behind the political leadership and
support the efforts of the armed forces and the police forces in the face of
terrorism and extremism to dry its sources and eliminate it.
