On Saturday, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi inaugurated in the governorate of Aswan, in Upper Egypt, the first edition of the Platform of Arab and African Youth.

During the events of the platform, which will close on Monday, 1,500 young people from different Arab and African countries will discuss the future of scientific research and health care, as well as the impact of advanced technologies and innovations on Africa and the Arab world.

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss various issues of interest to both Arab and African youth, with the aim of fostering cooperation between African and Arab countries.

The platform will also serve as a framework for various sessions, workshops, round tables and seminars aimed at bridging the gap between “promising young leaders and policy makers and policymakers”.

The event was first proposed by President Al-Sissi during the closing session of the second edition of the World Youth Forum that took place in Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2018.

The platform is being organized a few weeks after Egyptian President Al-Sissi took over from his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame as President of the African Union (AU). This is the first time that Egypt has presided over the AU since the creation of the African bloc in 2002.
