Germany praises Egypt's mediation efforts to reach ceasefire in Palestine

German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas hailed
on Monday Egypt's mediation efforts, alongside the United Nations, to reach a
ceasefire deal to end three-day battles between Palestinian factions and Israel
that left at least 23 people killed in the Gaza Strip.
Minister Maas underscored the necessity of an
immediate implementation of and a full adherence to the Egypt-brokered Gaza
ceasefire.
A Gaza truce could pose a base for containing the
volatile situation, the minister said, attaching great importance to
implementing a deal sealed by the Palestinian and Israeli sides last March to
provide Israeli with the security guarantees it needs and take tangible steps
to improve the living conditions in the Palestinian enclave.
He further expressed his country's eagerness to back
all overtures meant to eliminate conflicts, as will as efforts aimed at
upholding the two-state solution and reach a permanent and just peace in the
Middle East.
