On the Occasion of Eid al-Fitr, The Grand Imam receives Pope Tawadros II
His Eminence Prof. Dr.
Ahmad Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, received Pope Tawadros II of
Alexandria and Patriarch of See of St. Mark and a high level delegation from
the Church.
Pope Tawadros II and
the delegation congratulated Al-Tayeb and all Muslims on the occasion of Eid
El-Fitr. On his part, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar expressed his happiness of Pope
Twadros' visit to congratulate him on such occasion, confirming that
"exchanging congratulations in religious occasions between Al-Azhar and
the Church reflects the brotherly relations and cohesion among the people of
the homeland."
The meeting was attended
by Prof. Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa, Minister of Religious Endowments; Prof. Shawki
Allam, Grand Mufti of Egypt; Sheikh Saleh Abbas, the acting deputy of Al-Azhar;
Prof. Mohammad Al-Maharsawi, President of Al-Azhar University; Prof. Nazir
Ayyad, the Secretary-General of Al-Azhar Research Academy; Prof. Abdul Hady
Al-Qasabi, Grand Sheikh of Sufi Orders as well as a group of Al-Azhar
officials.
