Iraq renews call for unfreezing Syria's AL membership

Iraq's Ambassador to Egypt and the Arab League Ahmed
al Dulaimi has renewed a call for Syria's return to the Arab League which
suspended its membership in 2011.
Addressing the 152nd session of the Arab League
Council at the level of permanent representatives on Sunday, he called on
Syrians, Yemenis and Libyans to put their differences aside to achieve national
reconciliation, security and stability in their countries.
The Iraqi diplomat warned of the growing challenges
affecting the Arab region, pointing out to the importance of reconsidering the
way of addressing the many problems and crises the Arab world is facing.
He praised the success of the Iraqi army in
defeating terrorism a matter that helped push forward the country's
reconstruction process.
On the Palestinian problem Dulaimi called on the
international community to shoulder its responsibility for ending the Israeli
occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967
borders with Al Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.
Somali ambassador to the Arab League and Egypt
Mohamed Abdel Ghani, who handed over the chairmanship of the new session to
Iraq's ambassador, called for a stronger Arab stand to confront challenges
besetting the region, denouncing Israeli atrocities in the Palestinian
territories and the US decision to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to
Jerusalem.
