Arab writers union chief says countering extremism to be prioritized

Newly-elected chairman of the Arab Writers Union
Alaa Abdl Hadi of Egypt has told MENA that countering extremism will be a top
priority for the body in the coming period.
"There will be fundamental changes in the
coming period through setting up a collective vision for leading the Arab
cultural action with a view to having all Arab local unions to be a main
partner in drawing up main public cultural policies in the Arab
countries," Abdel-Hadi said to MENA in exclusive remarks.
Joint publication projects among the local unions
will be discussed. In addition, a magazine will be issued for the union with an
online version to be released, he said.
A website will be also established to become
"the union's ambassador at the international level", he added.
