NATO, Afghanistan join forces to fight terrorism

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said NATO
allies and partners stand shoulder to shoulder with Afghanistan to make its
security forces stronger in order to fight international terrorism and achieve
lasting peace.
He made the remarks in his speech at a plenary
session of the NATO parliamentary assembly in London on Monday, Khaama Press news
agency reported on Tuesday.
Stoltenberg further added “I commend the Afghan
forces, and the Afghan men and women for what they have achieved, and I commend
the Afghan people who exercised their democratic right to vote in the recent
presidential elections.”
He also added that NATO supported the peace talks.
“We would welcome the resumption of these peace talks, but then Taliban must
show willingness to make real compromises at the negotiating table.”
Stoltenberg also added that NATO remains committed
to Afghanistan and to ensure the country never again becomes a safe haven for
international terrorists.
