President Sisi on his fourth historic visit to Germany
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi started his
agenda on Monday during his official visit to the German capital of Berlin,
visiting the Bundestag, where he was received by Speaker of the Parliament
Wolfgang Schaeuble. In the evening a working dinner took place in honor of the
visit of the President and Co-Chairs of this year's G20 Partnership with Africa
Summit.
President El Sisi participated in a meeting
between the German President and Heads of State and Government of the countries
participating in the G20 and Africa Summit.
President El Sisi arrived in Berlin yesterday
to attend the G20 and Africa meetings.
The Egyptian community in Germany also
received President El-Sisi with flowers, Egyptian flags and chants of “Long
Live Egypt.
The G20 initiative aims to support economic
cooperation between Africa and the G20 countries through joint projects that
contribute to accelerating the growth of the continent.
This initiative was launched by the Federal
Republic of Germany in 2017 during its presidency of the G20 to support
development in African countries and attract investment.
The president's visit to Germany also includes
intensive activity at the bilateral level, and is scheduled to meet with German
Chancellor Angela Merkel within the framework of strengthening bilateral
relations between Egypt and Germany in various fields, in addition to
exchanging views on the developments of regional and international issues of
common interest.
During his visit to the Bundestag, President
al-Sisi discussed a number of issues, most notably:
- Strengthening strategic relations in various
fields as well as discussing regional and international issues and developments
in the Middle East, especially the crises of the Golan and Jerusalem, and
consultation on regional and international situations, particularly how to
confront terrorism and extremist groups, pushing forward the Middle East peace
process and reviewing all developments on the regional arena and the importance
of reaching political solutions to the crises of a number of countries in the
region.
Such solutions can preserve the unity,
sovereignty and territorial integrity of these countries, and safeguard their
national institutions and the capabilities of their people.
- Highlighting the importance of concerted international
efforts to tackle the threat of terrorism and extremism that has become a
threat to the whole world. Also affirming the importance of Egypt's role in the
region as a main pillar of security and stability, Egypt's efforts to combat
terrorism and confront extremism, in addition to the important development
steps taken by the Egyptian government during the past period. This comes in
addition to implementing an integrated program of economic reform and review of
the role played by Egypt, as one of the main and effective forces in achieving
security and stability in the region, and its efforts to achieve security,
stability and development and to confront extremism and terrorism, to review
the meeting of the Egyptian vision towards crises, and Cairo's efforts to help
promote the stability of the region and find solutions to those crises.
- Stressing the importance of upgrading
bilateral relations at all political, economic and military levels, in the
interest of Egypt and the countries of the talks and reviewing the plan for
achieving comprehensive economic development at a steady pace through several
decisive economic measures aimed at bringing about a major development in the
infrastructure at the level of the Republic as well as reviewing the vision of
Egypt, which is based on the necessity of preserving the national state in the
region, and working to support its institutions and strengthen its cohesion in
order to achieve its unity and territorial integrity. It would curb the
expansion of terrorism in the region by ending the vacuum that has allowed its
existence and growth over the past years, and to develop a common strategy for
ways to deal with existing challenges and crises.
- Presenting the African vision of ways of
achieving peace and sustainable development and consolidating the foundations
of a just partnership between Africa and Germany within the framework of common
and mutual interests.
German Ambassador: Egypt's presidency of the
African Union supports economy of the continent
The German Ambassador to Cairo said that Egypt
has distinguished relations with African countries, and its presidency of the
African Union will certainly launch initiatives to support African economies.
He said in remarks on Monday that the aim of
the Berlin initiative launched during its presidency of the Group of 20 is to
expand the network of African countries' relations with the world, hoping to
implement new projects that are positive and for the benefit of all.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived in
Berlin yesterday to participate in the meetings of the Group of 20 and Africa.
The Egyptian community in Germany received President El Sisi with flowers and
Egyptian flags and chants of "Long live Egypt".
Sisi's visit to Berlin strengthens Egypt's
role in boosting development efforts on African continent
The State Information Service (SIS) said in a
report that this is the fourth time that President Sisi visited Germany, where
the last visit was in mid-February this year, to participate in the Munich Conference
on Security Policy.
This is the third summit for Africa, organized
by the G20, in which President El Sisi is participating, after receiving an
invitation from German Chancellor Angela Merkel to participate in the summit,
with the aim of opening high-level dialogue channels between the heads and
governments of the countries participating in the initiative & CWA to
enhance the business environment and increase investment opportunities in the
continent.
The Program of Action of the Third Partnership
for Africa Summit includes an investment conference, organized by the
Afro-German Business Association, as well as the participation of
representatives of companies that already have investment projects in CWA
countries (Egypt, Ethiopia, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea,
Morocco, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo and Tunisia), and its approach to investment
projects in other countries, to put them in the spotlight and show the results
achieved so far.
The report pointed out that a seminar will be
devoted to discussing several issues, including the promotion of German direct
investment opportunities in the continent, in addition to reviewing the
projects of the most important German companies in the CWA countries.
The summit will also include a session to
present insights and views on ways to deepen the G20 partnership with Africa
and to review access to African markets in the light of the opportunities and
marketing challenges that already exist in some countries.
The report pointed out that the final session
of the summit will discuss ways of cooperation in order to increase growth
rates and benefit from new partnerships between investors and development
institutions in the continent.
According to the SIS report, since 2017,
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has adopted the Partnership for Africa (CWA)
initiative through its chairmanship of the G20, with the aim of promoting
sustainable economic growth and stability on the continent.
Growing bilateral relations
In addition to the Partnership Summit with
Africa, President El Sisi's visit to Germany contributes to enhancing the
growing bilateral relations between Egypt and Germany. President Sisi and
Chancellor Merkel held a summit in New York in September 2015, stressing the
importance Egypt attaches to its distinguished relations with Germany.
For her part, the German Chancellor, Merkel,
praised the level of ongoing contacts and continuous coordination between the
Egyptian and German sides in various political and economic fields to follow up
on the common issues and what is agreed upon between the two sides, and
expressed her agreement with the Egyptian vision of comprehensive confrontation
of terrorism.
Economic relations
Egypt ranks among the top 10 recipients of
investment guarantees and tops the list in the region. German companies pay
great attention to investment opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone,
particularly in the pharmaceutical, automotive, auto parts, logistics,
infrastructure and clean and renewable energy projects.
Economic agreements
On October 31, they discussed ways of
cooperation between the two countries to develop partnership and cooperation in
the field of waste recycling, energy, infrastructure, education, agriculture,
and work on joint projects in the field of smart cities, and others.
A number of cooperation agreements and
memorandums of understanding were signed between Egypt and Germany on 27/6/2019
in the presence of a number of ministers, officials and businessmen from both
sides in the field of water supply and treatment, medical tourism and training
of human cadres.
On 7/3/2019, the Petroleum and Mineral
Resources Authority signed a new petroleum agreement with the German company
DIA to search for oil and gas in the regions of Ras Badran and for oil in the
Gulf of Suez.
On 23/12/2018, the two sides signed two
agreements for technical and financial cooperation with a total value of 150.5
million euros in the sectors of education, electricity, new and renewable
energy, energy efficiency and agriculture, as well as small and medium
enterprises.
El Sisi discusses with German president
strengthening strategic relations
President Andrew Fattah El Sisi held talks
with his German counterpart in Berlin as part of his official visit to the
country.
Talks dealt with the strengthening of
strategic relations in various fields, as well as regional and international
issues and developments in the Middle East, especially the crises of Syria and
Jerusalem, and consultation on regional and international situations, in
particular how to confront terrorism and extremist groups, push forward the
Middle East peace process and review the developments in the regional arena.
El Sisi: We look forward to developing
friendly relations with Germany at various levels
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi visited the
Reichstag building, the historic seat of the German parliament, and was
received by President of the Bundestag.
Ambassador Bassam Radi, Spokesman of the
Presidency, said that the Speaker of the Parliament confirmed his welcome to
the President's visit to Germany, noting the distinguished relations between
the Egyptian and German people, and explained his country's keenness to support
Egypt in its efforts to achieve comprehensive development, which has witnessed
a great boom during the recent period, strengthening partnership between the
two countries in various fields, especially at the parliamentary level.
For his part, the President expressed his
appreciation for the visit of the German Parliament and his meeting with
Schaeuble again.
Sisi discusses launch of military projects
with Germany
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi discussed on
Monday the launch of joint military projects with the German Federal Federation
for Security and Defense Industries.
He stressed the need to take into account the
great challenges in the region, which requires the highest degree of readiness
in terms of the use of the latest technological systems in the field of
security and defense equipment.
The German delegation, which Sisi visited at
his residence in Germany, highlighted the need to provide Egypt with the
necessary needs to strengthen its defense capabilities and modernization and
development.
