7 sentenced to death, 3 others to 15 years in prison in "Helwan and Giza cells" case

The Cairo Criminal Court has sentenced seven
defendants, in the case known in the media as "Helwan and Giza
cells", to death by hanging after consulting Egypt's Mufti.
During a session held here on Monday, the court
sentenced three other defendants to a 15-year rigorous imprisonment and another
15 to 10 years.
Seven others were acquitted by the court in the same
case.
The defendants were accused of committing 19
terrorist crimes including killing police officers, non-commissioned officers
and policemen, attempted murder of other policemen, theft at gunpoint and
sabotaging police vehicles, public facilities and government buildings.
