CEMO condemns Erdogan’s threats to land Turkish military forces in Libya

Dr. Abdul Rahim Ali, the Egyptian MP and head of the
Middle East Center for Studies in Paris (CEMO), strongly condemned the Turkish
threats issued by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, regarding his intentions to land
Turkish military forces in Libya.
This threats, Ali added, represents a flagrant
violation of the United Nations Charter and all norms of international and
humanitarian law.
Ali described in a statement issued today this step as
an invasion and violation of the sovereignty of an independent state and a
member of the United Nations.

He explained that Erdogan’s reliance on his direct
intervention in the internal affairs of Libya on two memoranda of understanding
in the fields of security and military cooperation and the definition of
maritime borders signed with Fayez al-Sarraj, lacks to the legal bases.

norms and laws.
Ali said at the level of national legislation, the
Skhirat Agreement did not guarantee in the declaration the interim
constitution, which is the ruling constitutional rule in Libya since 2011,
especially since the government of Faiz al-Sarraj did not obtain the confidence
of the legitimate Libyan parliament since its formation in 2015.
Dr. Abdul Rahim Ali called on the international
community to condemn and reject Turkish threats to intervene militarily in
Libya, calling for urgent legal steps to be taken against this intervention.
Ali also called on Reconsidering the Security
Council’s adoption to the Skhirat Agreement, which failed to achieve consensus
between the Libyans, but rather it became a threat to Libyan and regional
national security.
