Businessmen and their families flee Erdogan, obtain Maltese citizenship

The number of Turkish billionaires who have acquired Maltese
citizenship through the country's Individual Investor Program (IIP) continues
to increase.
Previous reports revealed that members of the third
generation of the Sabancı family, one of Turkey's wealthiest families with 70
companies and about 65,000 employees from 15 countries, were granted Maltese
citizenship in 2018.
On Forbes’ list of the 100 richest Turks is Sevda Gülçelik, the
daughter of Vildan Gülçelik, who was one of the founders of the ENKA
construction company.
The list of new Maltese citizens also includes the daughters
of Feyyaz Berker, one of the founders of the Turkish Industry and Business
Association (TÜSİAD), namely Meltem Berker and Nilgün Berker, as well as
members of the Gülsan family, another famous Turkish family from the
southeastern Gaziantep province.
A potential citizen can now obtain citizenship in Malta by
investing $650,000 in the Mediterranean country, and about 65 members of
Turkish billionaire families acquired the citizenship in 2019.
