The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate highlighted Wednesday the importance of the role played by the European Union, especially France and Italy, in preventing Turkish interference in Libya.

This interference, it said, is a direct threat to regional security.

It added that the same interference would stoke tensions in the war-torn North African state.

The syndicate noted that Turkey hampers efforts for settling the Libyan crisis in a peaceful manner by using terrorist militias and supporting them.

The same policy threatens the security of Libya's neighboring countries, the syndicate said.

It called on the United Nations and the Security Council to prevent Turkish meddling in Libyan affairs in the light of international law.

The syndicate said the elected Libyan parliament is the only legitimate body in Libya.

The Libyan National Army is also the only military entity that has the right to preserve security and carry arms in Libya, the syndicate said.

It called on Tunisia and Algeria to formulate a plan for settling the crisis in Libya, one that goes hand in hand with the aspirations of the Libyan people.

The same plan, the syndicate said, also needs to prevent foreign interference in Libyan affairs.
