Macron: Many people lost faith in democracy

French
President Emmanuel Macron told the Munich Security Conference that the failure
of French-German cooperation within the European Union would be a “historic
mistake”.
The French leader said that many
people have lost faith in democracy after the financial crisis and migration.
Macron has made it clear that the
European Union, especially France and Germany, should come up with answers to
whatever emerges within 20 or 30 years.
The French president called on the
EU member states to come up with independent solutions to a number of issues
concerning Europe, i.e. climate change and artificial intelligence.
Moreover, Macron said that Europe
couldn’t deal with these issues for many years, noting that EU Commission
President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel
should open up new opportunities.
The Munich Security Conference will
be attended by 40 heads of state and more than 100 ministers. The participants
include US President Donald Trump and Macron.
