Egypt offering more support to fellow African states
Egypt tries to expand its outreach in other African countries through an aid package stipulated by the principles of humanity and geography.
Helping
Africa
On June 1, two
Egyptian military cargo planes flew to the Democratic Republic of Congo and
Zambia, carrying medical aid to the two countries, at instructions by Egyptian
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The two
shipments contained essential equipment for the two countries' response to the
coronavirus.
The Egyptian
ambassador in Congo and the Congolese deputy foreign minister received the
shipment at the airport.
The Congolese
official thanked Egypt for its keenness on helping its fellow African states.
Until June 2,
the Democratic Republic of Congo had reported 3,194 coronavirus infections and
72 deaths. Most of the infections and the deaths are in capital Kinshasa.
The Egyptian
ambassador in Zambia also received the shipment of medical aid arriving in the
country, together with the vice-president of Zambia.
The Zambian
vice-president expressed gratefulness to the Egyptian government for standing
by the people of Zambia at this testing time.
Zambia has
reported 1,089 cronavirus infections and seven deaths so far.
Friendship
As an active
member of the African continent Egypt works hard to offer all types of support
to the countries of the continent and help them overcome the ongoing
coronavirus crisis.
During a minor
online African summit in March, President Sisi launched a new initiative for
slashing the debt burdens on African states. The president also proposed the
creation of a new fund to help African counties get over the economic effects
of the virus outbreak in them.
In May,
President Sisi held talks with the President of South Africa to discuss the
measures that should be taken to prevent the disease from spreading in the
countries of the continent.
