Erdoğan working to occupy Libya with Muslim Brotherhood support
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan tries to control Libya in cooperation with the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) by establishing military bases in the country.
The presence of these bases in Libya
will threaten the security of the Middle East region and the African continent.
The bases will also turn Libya into a
dangerous backyard for Europe.
Turkey will establish presence in
al-Wattiya base in southern Tripoli, which was captured by the militias allied
to the GNA a few weeks ago. It will also establish naval presence in Misurata.
Turkish occupation
Turkey does not only want to steal
Libya's mineral wealth, but also wants to gain military presence in the North
African country, experts say.
They add that Libya's strategic
location in the region makes it an important spot for Turkey.
Turkey's military presence in this
country would help it maintain its control over its mineral resources and
wealth, the same experts say.
However, Turkish military interference
in Libya would never have happened in the absence of the GNA, they add.
Turkey inked a maritime boundary
delimitation deal in November last year, along with another one on security
cooperation. The two deals boost intelligence cooperation between the two
sides.
The Muslim Brotherhood is aiding the
GNA and presenting it with a media cover.
The military bases Turkey wants to
establish in Libya will threaten the security of the region and jeopardize
European security.
Military expert Samir Ragheb said the
military bases would safeguard Turkey's colonialist interests in Libya.
The bases will help Ankara protect the
airports and consequently the transfer of Syrian mercenaries to Libya, Ragheb
said.
