Unemployment making a new record in Turkey
Turkey faces a
large number of economic problems, including rampant unemployment.
According to
ManpowerGroup, a global leader in providing innovative workforce solutions,
Turkey's employers expect unemployment to get worse in the coming period.
The group
expects the number of jobs available in Turkey to drop remarkable during the
second half of this year.
It conducted a
survey, involving a large number of business owners. Judging by the results of
the survey, ManpowerGroup expected Turkey's unemployment rates to persist in
the coming period.
The group
surveyed 697 employers. The survey was conducted as Turkey continued to battle
covid-19.
Some of those
surveyed expected the Turkish workforce to grow by 15% during the third quarter
of this fiscal year. About 13% of those surveyed expect the economic growth
rate to drop and 67% expect things to remain as they are in Turkey without any
progress.
Small and
medium-sized companies expect the employment rate to drop to 8%, whereas some
people expect the same rate to drop to zero.
Meanwhile, the
Turkish Employment Agency revealed that over a million people had submitted
employment requests in the first half of this year.
Around 653,925
people receive unemployment support across Turkey, the agency said.
Around 40,000
people used to get unemployment support before the current crisis in Turkey.
This, economists say, shows the enormity of the crisis.
