Tamim’s humiliating submission to Erdogan brings back the Middle Ages

Saudi activists have criticized the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s quick visit to Doha to meet Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Thursday, July 2, which was his first foreign visit since the corona crisis began.

The visit has been described as having the aim of garnering support for Ankara's faltering economy from Qatar, as well as to support the projects Erdogan intends to establish in the eastern Mediterranean region, with the hashtag "Erdogan milks Tamim" trending on Twitter.

Saudi journalist Khaled al-Zaatar said in a series of tweets on Twitter that Erdogan’s surprise visit to Qatar was aimed at discussing financial support, as Turkey is counting on increased Qatari support for its treasury and its mercenaries sent to fight in Libya.

Zaatar noted that Turkey is experiencing a financial crisis domestically as well as at the level of foreign projects, and therefore Erdogan's visit to Qatar aims to intensify pressure on the Qatari regime to increase investments, which are more than 15%. He added that Qatar is also experiencing a financial crisis, which can been seen in the reduction of salaries of Qatar Airways employees and the suspension of plans to expand, as well as the reduction of Al Jazeera channel by 40%. But now the Qatari regime finds itself in a bind over the escalating demands from Turkey to support the Turkish economy.

In another tweet, accompanied by a picture of the moment Erdogan arrived in Doha, Saudi businessman Munther al-Sheikh Mubarak said it is clear that Qatar has become dependent on Turkey, adding that Erdogan has returned to the Middle Ages and caused humiliation for Qatar’s Arabs.

Meanwhile, Saudi writer Ibrahim Al-Sulaiman referred to the way Erdogan treated members of the Qatari government, with an accompanying video showing Erdogan embarrassing the Qatari foreign minister, saying, “If his treatment of them in front of the cameras is so conceited, arrogant and prideful, then how would it be if the doors were closed and cameras off?!”

It is worth noting that Doha hosts a Turkish military base, decreasing the Qatari state’s sovereignty over its own territory. Leaked documents show that the Qatari regime has submitted to Turkey, and Doha is preparing to receive the second Turkish base. This begs the question: “What would Jassim Al Thani (may God have mercy on him) and the honorable Qataris who participated with him in the Battle of al-Wajbah say about the return of the Turks to their land with the blessing of the regime?”
