CAIR, a Muslim Brotherhood arm with a political agenda
The United Arab Emirates designated what is known as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) a "terrorist organization" in 2016.
A short time later, U.S. President Donald Trump said he
planned to brand the Muslim Brotherhood as a "terrorist
organization".
This was a strong blow to the Muslim Brotherhood that
worked to spread its influence everywhere in the world through a large number
of entities that hide the group's true political goals.
However, CAIR came out to defend the Muslim Brotherhood in
the U.S. It sought to impede President Trump's bid through a network of
contacts in Washington.
According to some reports, CAIR tried to convince a large
number of American officials of the need to obstruct the president's move.
CAIR claims to be defending the civil rights of American
Muslims. Founded in 1994, the organization is part of a complex network and
international entities run by the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The International Organization of the Muslim Brotherhood is
known to be in full control of CAIR. It does this by financing the group. Most
of those leading CAIR are also organization members.
CAIR is an important Muslim Brotherhood organization in the
U.S. It gives the Muslim Brotherhood access into countries outside the U.S.,
including in Europe.
According to media reports, CAIR is run by political
activists known for their affiliation to the Muslim Brotherhood, including
Palestinian activist Nihad Awad who is the Executive Director of the council.
Awad was in the news in the past period. He did his best to
use the protests that erupted in the past weeks in unifying mosques under his
council. He asked mosque leaders to participate in the protests.
He now lobbies for potential Democratic presidential
candidate Joe Biden.
