Giants' Brigades leading liberation of Yemeni cities from Houthi control
Ataq, the provincial capital of the eastern Yemeni province of Shabwah, is the scene of fierce battles between the Giants' Brigades of the Arab Coalition for the Support of Legitimacy in Yemen, on one hand, and the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
The brigades work to liberate areas
under the control of the Houthis in the eastern part of Yemen.
Grand operation
The brigades are made up of 15,000 troops.
They contain five divisions.
They were formed by the Southern Resistance.
The brigades have been preparing for
a major military operation to restore the areas controlled by the Houthi
militia in Ataq for several days now.
The media center of the brigades
said they play a pivotal role in the successes achieved by the Yemeni
resistance at the expense of the Houthi militia.
The brigades have recently receveid
control of Ataq Airport from the leadership of the Axis, the center said.
It added that this came days after
their arrival in Shabwah, as part of their efforts to restore the three
districts of Baihan, Ain, and Usaylan.
The brigades reception of control
over the airport took place in the presence of the commander of the 11th Giants'
Brigade, Abdul Rahman al-Jaari, Commander of the Ataq Axis, Maj. Gen. Aziz al-Atiqi,
and a number of military leaders, at the end of December, the center said.
In May 2021, the Giants' Brigades
began a new phase of military operations, advancing to liberate al-Hudaydah province
and its airport, on the road to the city's strategic port and then the heart of
the city.
The Giants' Brigades are managed by
a number of resistance officers who succeeded in scoring several victories over
the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Aden, Lahij and Abyan.
